A Medical Assistant, also known as Assistant Medical Officer (AMO) is a healthcare professional who practices in a wide range of healthcare settings including hospitals and in community based clinics. An AMO is in great demand in Malaysia and several countries in the world as they play an important role in healthcare services.
Our Diploma in Medical Assistant program prepares the candidates in the area of basic medical sciences, and also professional modules such as medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, public health, pharmacology, behavioral sciences, nursing and college elective modules. Students will experience learning in the classroom in the form of tutorials, lectures, practical sessions, hands-on activities that stimulate intellectual discourse, critical thinking and clinical reasoning combined with student directed learning. Students will also be exposed to hands-on clinical training via clinical placements within our healthcare organizations to enhance the clinical knowledge, competencies, and skills in major areas of medical, surgical, emergency, trauma and many others.
This program is approved by both the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the Higher Education Department as well as the Medical Assistant Board. Our program enables students to achieve their dreams to work in a healthcare setting in both the government and private sectors.
The scope of this profession evolves from time to time. To date, in Malaysia, the scope of pre-hospital care and ambulance services is the responsibility of the AMO. The Assistant Medical Officer works closely with the Medical Officers in hospitals, to assist in most of the units in the hospital.
