Programme Description
The BA (Hons) in Fashion & Retail Design offered at Limkokwing University Of Creative Technology International Kuala Lumpur is designed for aspiring students who require to gain an all round experiential education in the fashion design and lifestyle industries. This programme prepares the students’ talents, skills, knowledge and personal presentation that are vital to qualify them to work and to become innovators in these industries. The syllabus explores the multi discipline in the industry which include fashion and lifestyle design; brand and retail management; pattern design and manufacturing; and public and media relation. This programme is set for students to familiarize themselves in the increasingly competitive practical and intellectual demand in the industry. It gives them the opportunity to master their interest and talent, and to deliver these in excellence within the industry.
The BA (Hons) in Fashion & Retail Design offered at Limkokwing University Of Creative Technology International Kuala Lumpur aims to:
- Produce qualified, recognized and skillful graduates who are talented, innovative, creative and competitive in the global fashion design and lifestyle industries;
- Ensure readiness of the graduates practically and intellectually;
- Produce graduates who are able to create a new fashion lifestyle and trend in the industry;
- Produce graduates who will be able to champion their career as fashion designer, retail designer, fashion editor, fashion marketer and merchandiser, fashion photographer, fashion buyers and trend forecaster.
Entry Requirements
- Pass STPM/A Levels with minimum 2 principals; OR
- Pass Foundation/Matriculation programme in related field; OR
- Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government
Students with a recognised Diploma in the relevant field will be given credit exemptions based on past results and portfolio review (where applicable).

Programme Structure
Year 1
The 1st Semester consists of preliminary introduction to the fashion world. Students will gain a broad introduction and basic understanding of the elements of fashion designing through experiential learning such as visits, guest speakers, fashion TV and movie watching. The 2nd Semester will introduce them to basic technical skills in illustration, photography, visual display and experimental fashion drawing techniques.
At the end of Year 1, students will be able to create visual journals, design sketch books, mood board and concept board, and they will coordinate an unconventional piece of garment and produce a mini fashion show and exhibition of their 2D works.

Year 2
The 3rd Semester consists of introduction to the technical skills in pattern design and sewing, textile design, trend forecasting. Students will experiment with various techniques in creating their garment through workshops and studio design origination. The 4th Semester will introduce them to the management of retail design where business theories and practices will be explored extensively.
At the end of Year 2, students will be able to analyze various retail strategies that will further inspire them to develop innovative design that are both conceptual and commercial.

Year 3
The 5th and 6th Semesters consist of the development of the final runway collection. Students will be expected to produce a total of 6 sets of garments by the end of the year. They will also learn to produce their own events and create a network within the industry through internship experience. They will also be introduced to product development strategies which will further inspire them in developing their design collection. The development of their final runway collection will be filmed as a Project Runway whereby students’ assignments is set as a competition for them to excel to becoming the best. The panel of judges are invited from the industry to give them the best advise and feedback.
