Programme Description

Practical projects allow students’ theories and findings to be realised in an innovative and individualistic way. Student identified projects can be integrated with industry which continue to place this programme within the distinct boundaries of the real world of today, helping to broaden the individual’s awareness of their potential role within the industry.
The modular structure offers students opportunities to develop skills throughout a range of applications including surface design for fashion and interiors, gallery pieces and textile crafts. Each module offers practical work within the specialist area and encourages academic research, report writing and presentation skills. Visual awareness, drawing and design research, problem solving, professional practice, technical understanding and critical and historical studies support this.
Surface Design is concerned with developing creative visual ideas that can be translated into printed designs for a wide range of surfaces. These include printed textiles for fashion and interiors, ceramic and glass-ware, wallpaper and wrapping, decorative laminate and floor coverings, and many other innovative decorative design and print applications. This course will enable you to turn your design ideas into printed surface design products.
