Programme Description
INTRODUCTION
Modern retailers require advanced skills and knowledge to make strategic decisions. The Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Retail Management encompasses a broad set of retailing subjects to prepare interested students to become successful employees in a retail company or owners of a retail business.
The students are provided with a conducive learning environment in which they are expected to work in groups, conduct workshops, plan for field trips, meet current retailers and operate BIZMART – a retail simulation store cum training centre specially designed for this programme.
To cap off their learning experience, students are required to display their final works in visual merchandising at selected shopping complexes and undergo retail practicum at leading international retail outlets like Metrojaya, Tesco, Jusco, Parkson, Habib Jewel and Carrefour in the final year.

STUDENT INTAKE
Admission of students is twice a year. Applications may be made:
- Through the Unit Pusat Universiti (UPU) – June
- Direct to Universiti Teknologi MARA – November
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Minimum qualification for STPM candidates
- Passed SPM or its equivalent, with 5 credits which include English, Mathematics and Bahasa Malaysia / Bahasa Melayu.
- STPM, passed with Grade B in 1 subject and Grade C in any two other subjects including General Paper with minimum CGPA of 2.30.
- Have taken the MUET.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Passed with a Diploma from UiTM or other institutions recognized as its equivalent by the government, with a minimum CGPA of 2.30 and 3.00 respectively. Candidates who do not comply with this requirement, would need to have at least two (2) years working experience.
- Have taken the MUET.
- Credit in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia
ASSESSMENT
Candidates are assessed through tests, project papers, assignments, class participations and BIZMART activities.
Course Outline
PROGRAMME CONTENT
Year One
The first year provides a foundation to business related disciplines. Students will learn a range of preparatory courses including information technology, economics, marketing, management and business law.
Year Two
Students will develop an understanding towards retailing and pick up the skills of managing retail activities in the second year. Courses offered include retail logistics, concepts and practice of retailing, understanding shoppers, retail accounting, retail merchandising and retail operations and technology. In addition, students will acquire hands–on experience through BIZMART, a retail simulation store manage and staffed by the students themselves.
Year Three
The managerial perspective dominates curriculum design for the final year. Courses such as strategic management, retail strategies, current issues in retailing and global retailing provide the necessary closure to the programme. Students are required to undergo a compulsory period of practical training in their final semester to prepare them for a smooth transition from the classroom to the world of retailing.
