Programme Description

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Operations Management is a three–year programme designed for students who are interested in the operations function of the manufacturing or service sector. The unique characteristics of this programme are that it emphasizes the managerial aspects of business operations. Among the courses offered are Project Management, Quality Management, Safety Management, Job Design, Production Planning and Control, Operations Management in the Service Sector, Purchasing and Inventory Management and Physical Supply and Distribution.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum qualification for STPM candidates:

Passed SPM or its equivalent with credits in Bahasa Melayu/Malaysia, English and Mathematics.

Passed STPM or its equivalent as recognized by the government, with the following results:

Grade C in 2 subjects including General Paper
Grade B in 1 subjects
Minimum CGPA of 2.30
Have taken the MUET

SPECIAL QUALIFICATION

Passed Diploma from UiTM or other institutions recognized as its equivalent by the government with a minimum CGPA of 2.30 and 3.00 respectively. Candidates who do not comply would need to have at least two (2) years working experience.

Have taken the MUET. Candidates with working experience particularly in manufacturing operations or related areas are preferred.

ASSESSMENT

Candidates are continuously assessed based on tests, term papers, assignments, class participation and a final examination.

Course Outline

COURSE CONTENT

Year 1

The first year provides a foundation in business administration such as principles and practice of marketing, management, financial accounting, quantitative business analysis, economics and basic business law. The student will be exposed to courses that will help them to develop a range of personal skills vital for future success in any business and management career. He or she will learn essential aspects of information technology in business, master courses in English and will also be introduced to a third language. Personal development is equally important for the student through a choice of co–curricular courses offered such as Kesatria Negara, Red Crescent and many others.

Year 2

In the second–year, the student will explicitly focus on business operations. Various courses offered range from operations management, safety management, managerial economics, job design, purchasing and inventory management and many others.

Elective courses offered include introduction to international business, international management and product management; physical supply and distribution or operations management in the service sector, investment or management of change. The Faculty of Business Management also offers a course on Islamic and Asian Civilization to instill moral and ethical values to strengthen students’ spiritual and mental skills.

Year 3

Year 3 is the final year when the student will undergo further business management courses such as strategic management and research methodology to equip him/her with knowledge and skills in strategic thinking and research. The student will also be provided with project and quality management courses to expose him/her to the various quality standards and project management skills. Current issues in operations management will also be taught to prepare students to face current issues related to the field. The final semester will end with a practicum or industrial attachment in a host organization of the student’s choice for a minimum period of twelve weeks. The student is expected to submit a final report based on the practicum.

Career Opportunity

Graduates will have the opportunity to work at the executive and managerial level in operations, logistic, purchasing and planning divisions.
