Entry Requirements
Master Degree from local or international universities recognized by Malaysian Government or Professional qualification approved by University’s Senate which equivalent to the Masters Degree with working experience.
Other recognized professional qualifications approved by Senate’s University which equivalent to the Master Degrees with working experience.
Overview
- This doctoral program is also intended to those working adults, teaching and non-teaching professions who wish to enhance their research management skills as well as upgrading their academic and professional qualifications in the field of business management. The program is strongly research-oriented and emphasizes early and effective involvement in research. Students will experience considerable personals attentions as well as close interaction with UGSM. While most graduates undertake careers as lecturers, scholars, researchers working within academic environment, the doctoral degree can also lead to careers in industry and government.
- The program admits only a few highly qualified candidates each year, involving an in-depth study in the management areas of Marketing, Strategic Management, Human Resource, Entrepreneurship, Supply Chain & Logistics Management, Project Management and others.
Program Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the students should be able to:
- analyse, plan, prepare, monitor, organise and communicate financial, marketing, management, technical reports and proposals in their respective organisation;
- troubleshoot and diagnose issues and problems and recommend alternative solutions for organisations;
- demonstrate a sense of sensitivity towards cross cultural and global diversity; exercise public responsibility; provide service to community; and care for environment;
- determine and fulfil customer needs and satisfaction and improve service accordingly guided by strong conviction in ethical values, social responsibilities and environmental considerations;
- motivate and deploy effective inter and intra personal skills towards achieving team ship and promote positive organizational culture and image;
- apply mathematical and statistical concepts to analyze and explain issues in quantitative terms for management and entrepreneurial decision making;
- understand a wider scope of diversified work environment with strong positive attitude and willingness to adapt new changes and development;
- use information to evaluate, organize and analyse for business management and entrepreneurial decision making;
Programme Stucture
Year 1
Candidates are required to attend a series of of research workshops duirng the first semester of their enrolment.
Candidates are required to defend their proposals to a committee in month 12. The committee comprises of a chairperson and at least one reviewer appointed by the faculty.
The research proposal should be between 25,000-30,000 words and cover the following topics:
– Chapter 1: Background of the study, problem statement, research questions, research objectives, scope of the study, and significance of the study.
– Chapter 2: Literature review
– Chapter 3: Research methodology, research framework, hypotheses
Year 2
Candidates are expected to be ready to defend their thesis in month 36 in the viva session. The recommended length of the complete Master thesis is between 80,000-120,000 words. The number of words is inclusive of references.

Expected Salary
- Public Sector: Basic starting monthly salary is around RM4,500; the approximate total salary inclusive allowances (such as housing and entertainment) is RM6,200.
- Private Sector: The amount of basic starting monthly salary can vary from the above amount. However, the total amount of monthly salary earned (inclusive of allowances) is subject to negotiation and which can be higher than that earned in the public sector.
