Objectives
The Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences is a holistic and integrated programme designed to achieve the following objectives :
- To provide students with adequate foundation work in subject areas that are fundamental to progress into the degree programmes offered by Tun Abdul Razak School of Government (TARSOG).
- To enhance students’ understanding of social sciences and how individual behavior are formed and later affects society and organizations which will assist them in pursuing their degree programmes in leadership, economics and public administration and policy.
- To provide students who are new in the university life with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to manage their time and their academic activities in an effective manner.
- To enhance students’ interpersonal and communication skills to enable them to function effectively and efficiently.
- To provide students with basic analytical and quantitative abilities and skills to prepare for more rigorous research in the degree programmes.
- To enable students to work effectively in a team to assist them in group projects and study groups.

This is a one-year programme designed to prepare students for the Bachelor of Arts (Government and Public Policy) (Hons), Bachelor of Arts (Leadership) (Hons) and Bachelor of Economics (Hons) offered by Razak School of Government. It offers courses which provide the students with basic skills, competencies and knowledge in English Language, Learning Skills, General Studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Sociology, Psychology, Management and PC applications..
Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences is a unique programme specifically designed for full-time students. Students with only SPM or ‘O’ level or similar qualifications are required to complete 50 credit hours of the Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences programme in order to continue to the degree programmes offered by Tun Abdul Razak School of Government (TARSOG).
The courses in this Foundation programme will be conducted by our dedicated and experienced academic staff who will continuously motivate and inspire the students to become excellent academic performers. Students will find that the study experience in TARSOG will be unique, enlightening, rewarding and enriching for everyone regardless of race, color and creed.
Requirements
- Pass SPM/SPMV/O Level with 5 credits or other equivalent qualification;
Other Requirements
- An International student with TOEFL score of 450 or IELTS band 3.5
- The validity period of and IELTS results is two(2) years from the date awarded
- Non-qualified TOEFL and IELTS need to register and pass the University’s Intensive English Program (IEP)
