Computer gaming is a phenomenon of the digital age. Once regarded as an adolescent pastime, computer games are today the entertainment and media industry’s fastest growing segment. It has matured to become an industry of increasing sophistication and draws on the advancing technologies from software engineering, computer programming, computer graphics, animation and even artificial intelligence.
As game enthusiasts seek more challenging platforms and environments, the industry is constantly on the lookout for talented designers to create more exciting new games that push the boundaries of technology and creativity.
The Diploma in Games Art will provide comprehensive studies of conceptual ideas, story, character and visual design disciplines. It will focus on developing the student’s technical and aesthetic-based skill-sets as well as the ability to coordinate games development teams.
With a primary focus on creating visuals for the screen, a games art student will learn to create highly marketable graphics for the latest gaming platforms/consoles as well as for the mobile/portable device. The programme will provide comprehensive study of the conceptual, story, character and visual design aspects. It will focus on developing highly marketable technical and aesthetic skills as well as the ability to coordinate games development teams.
Students will examine the evolution of computer games, the elements that contribute to a game’s playability, hardware and software environments and the visual design, testing, creation and marketing of games. An important component of the course is the practical training students will undergo in preparation for this competitive and highly lucrative industry.
