Programme Structure
With the challenges arising from the liberalization and globalization of business today, and realizing the importance of the banking industry as the financial intermediary and primary source of financing for the domestic economy, there is a need to understand the banking system of Malaysia. This programme, which started in July 1967, is designed to develop and train students in the area of banking management and finance.
This programme also prepares students for the Bachelor programme in the field of finance, banking and investment. This 3-year programme of 6 semesters covers a wide range of courses. It includes the study of banking management, finance, accounting, economics, marketing, management, mathematics and statistics, language and communication, information technology and legal foundations. This wide range of courses provides students with the basis needed in facing challenges in the banking industry.
Recognition
Holders of this diploma can proceed directly into the third semester of the Bachelor of Business Administration Programme level at the Faculty of Business Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Graduates can also further their studies at any local or foreign universities.
Course Duration
3 years (full time)
Assessment
Candidates are continuously assessed based on tests, assignments, term papers, class participation and final examinations.
Admission Requirement
SPM/SPMV or its equivalent with credits in English, Mathematics and three (3) other subjects, and a pass in Bahasa Malaysia.
Programme Availability
This programme is offered at various UiTM campuses : Arau, Sungai Petani, Alor Gajah, Segamat, Jengka, Machang, Dungun, Kota Kinabalu and Samarahan.
Year One & Year Two
(Semester 1 to Semester 4)
The first two years provide a foundation to various business related disciplines. Students are introduced to several foundation courses, which comprise:
• 3 fundamental business courses: Management, Marketing and Finance,
• 3 economics courses: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Malaysian Economics
• 2 accounting courses: Financial Accounting and Cost Accounting
• 2 quantitative courses: Business Mathematics and Introduction to Statistics
• 1 legal course: Business Law
Students are also required to equip themselves with other knowledge and skills to further enhance their quality. These include taking courses in:
• Computer & Information Processing
• Business Communication
• English and another foreign language
• Islamic Studies
• Co-curricular activities
Year Three
(Semester 5 & Semester 6)
The first elective is either Investment Management, Islamic Banking I, Asas Ekonomi Islam or Pemikiran & Tamadun Islam. As for the second elective, students can choose Treasury, Organizational Behavior, Islamic Banking II or Perniagaan Islam. Other than taking these core courses, students will continue to take three compulsory business related courses: Human Resource Management, Information Technology in Business and Business Development.
Graduates will be able to fill job vacancies at the supervisory and junior level at any financial institutions such as banks, finance companies and merchant banks
