Programme Details
There is great demand for chemical and bioprocess engineers in Malaysia and abroad. Graduates of this programme can meet this demand. Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing industry sectors world-wide and has been identified as a key area for growth in Malaysia. With the rapid growth of biologically based technologies, bioprocess engineers are uniquely qualified to solve the problems of today and tomorrow. The emerging biotechnology industry in Malaysia provides excellent opportunities for these chemical engineers with bioprocessing knowledge to develop, design and operate processes for producing the many high-value biotechnology products. Graduates of this new programme can fit in well in any chemical or biotechnology company. Depending on their specialization, they will be the preferred candidates in pharmaceutical, food or other biotechnology industries.
This course is open to all Bumiputera students from any institution recognized by the government who fulfill any of the requirements given below:
A pass in STPM or equivalent that is recognized by the Malaysian Government including :
i) A pass in two (2) other subjects with CGPA 2.67 from the following subjects: Mathematics
Physics/Chemistry
AND
ii) A pass in SPM or equivalent that is recognized by the Malaysian Government with a credit in
Bahasa Melayu/ Malaysia and a pass in English.
OR
A pass in the Matriculation Programme from the Physical Science stream with a minimum CGPA of 2.75.
OR
A pass in the Matriculation Programme from the Biology stream with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 and a credit in Physics at SPM level.
OR
A pass in Chemical Engineering Diploma from UiTM with a minimum CGPA of 2.50.
OR
A pass in Diploma in any related field from UiTM with a minimum CGPA of 2.75.
OR
A pass in Diploma in any related field from UiTM with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and at least 2 years working experience in related field.
Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering programme also provides ample scope for further studies. These include master’s programmes either by research or course work in specialized areas of either chemical or bioprocess engineering, doctoral programmes by research in specialized areas or even management degrees in order to enrich their entrepreneurial knowledge and skills.
