For Advertising Design, the fundamental learning outcome that we look for in a project is the students’ ability to apply their knowledge on elements and principles of advertising into working ideas. Our objective is to ensure that they acquire good understanding of skills in creative concept, execution and production of creative multimedia content. They must be able to utilise the latest innovations of electronic media, with a strong comprehension of their product, consumer and the marketplace. At the end of the course, the students learn the theory and practice of advertising, creativity and innovation, basic marketing, media, and indirectly, research skills as well as the business acumen.
In this project, emphasis is given to the understanding of concept of branding, positioning, advertising strategy, media application and product solution. Students are also advised to work on a product of their interest. This serves to motivate students to complete their projects to the best of their ability. The creative process, or experiential learning, is our teaching method and the artworks or creative products are vehicles for them to demonstrate their skills and abilities.
No advertising idea or advertising designer exists on its own. It is similar to pixels; they are a part of bigger scheme of things that form the big picture.
The selected works are distinctive in nature as they carry the essence of advertising and marketing. That is to vividly communicate the branding and identity of the product, addressing the correct target audience, positioning the product effectively, coming up with a solution that is as interesting and appealing as possible, and ultimately, sell the idea, product or brand. Everything should be inter-dependence. As a whole, in any Big Idea, the strength lies in both; the creative strategy and execution. Excellent art direction applied to a sound strategy creates a distinguished and desirable product to the selected target audience. These works display remarkable actualisation of all of the above.
