This undergraduate programme offers students with an integrated and balanced curriculum and at the same time, ensures solid foundations in sociological theory and empirical analyses of real-life issues in society. The courses offered in the programme are substantially infused with Islamic concepts, principles, theories, methods and approaches.
Programme Description
The programme requires students to complete 134 credit hours and this normally requires four years of full time study. It is designed to produce professionally-trained and Islamically-oriented graduates in sociology and anthropology who are equipped with the ability to think critically, analytically, and creatively about society as well as apply sociological and anthropological perspectives integrated with revealed knowledge. Courses offered fall under three areas of specialization, namely:
- Development Studies
- Industrial Studies
- Social Work Studies
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirements are according to the following tracks:
TRACK 1
A pass in the Higher School Certificate (STPM) with a CGPA of 3.00 or at least:
- A C Grade with a 2.0 point in the General Paper
- A C Grade with a 2.0 point in any two other subjects
AND
A pass in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) or its equivalent with at least:
- A credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia
- A credit in Pendidikan Islam/Tassawur Islam/Pengajian Qur’an dan Sunnah/Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah
- A B grade in English Language
- A credit in Mathematics
- A credit in any two other subjects
TRACK 2
A Diploma or its equivalent with a CGPA of 3.00, provided that it is approved by the Malaysian Government and endorsed by the University Senate
AND
A pass in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) or its equivalent with at least:
- A credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia
- A credit in Pendidikan Islam/Tassawur Islam/Pengajian Qur’an dan Sunnah/Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah
- A B grade in English Language
- A credit in Mathematics
- A credit in any two other subjects
TRACK 3
A pass in the relevant Centre for Foundation Studies programme with a minimum CGPA of 2.25.
TRACK 4
A pass in the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with at least a Jayyid Jiddan grade.
AND
A pass in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) or its equivalent with at least:
- A credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia
- A credit in Pendidikan Islam/Tassawur Islam/Pengajian Qur’an dan Sunnah/Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah
- A B grade in English Language
- A credit in Mathematics
- A credit in any two other subjects
In all the tracks above, a minimum of Band 3 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) is required.
TRACK 5
A pass in overseas qualifications deemed by the Senate to be equivalent to GCSE A Level with good grades.
