Entry Requirements

  1. Foundation in science(UNISEL) with CGPA at least 2.00.
  2. Foundation/Matriculation Certificate in science physical from Malaysian Ministry Education or Private Institution with CGPA at least 2.00.
  3. Passed in STPM/STPMV with at least  principals in 2 subjects, mathematics and any science subject.
  4. Diploma in Engineering/Sciences/Technology with at least CGPA 2.00 from Local Government University, Polythecnic or Private University with minimum CGPA  2.00.
  5. Other qualification that organized by Malaysian Government
    and
  6. Prefered candidates with Malaysia University English Test(MUET) certificate, if not students are compulsory to sit for MUET test while studying at UNISEL;
    or
  7. STAM- candidates passed with grade JAYYID and passed in Bahasa Melayu/Bahassa Malaysia (SPM level)
    or
  8. Australian Senior Secondary Qualification
    • Passed in south Australian Certificate Education (SACE) with minimum 50 marks in 5 subjects.
    • West Australian certificate of Education(WACE) with minimum gred C;
    • New South Wales Higher School Certificate(NSWHSC) with minimum 60 marks (BAND 3); or
    • Other qualifications recognized by Australian States itself.
  9. Canadian International Programme (CIMP)/International Canadian Pre University Programme (ICPU)
    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma(OSSD) with minimum 60% marks in 6 subjects;  or
    • Others qualification Gred 12 that recognised by countries/staes itself.

 

Overview
The Faculty of Engineering offers a comprehensive program in electrical power engineering to meet the needs of the electric power industry and employers whose main businesses are related to electrical power engineering. Students who fulfill the academic requirements of the program will receive the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) (Electrical) degree.

Undergraduate degree course encompasses at least 8 (eight) semester, including 1 (one) semester for industrial training which requires 135 credit hours. This degree program focuses on the engineering required in electrical power generation, transmission and distribution and it’s utilization in industries.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and an engineering fundamentals to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. to Identify, formulate, research literature and analyse complex engineering problems.
  3. to design solutions for complex engineering problems that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. to conduct investigation into complex problems using research based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments ,analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
  5. to apply reasonable and practical knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.
  6. to explain the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.
  7. to demonstrate knowledge of engineering, management and financial principles in multi disciplinary environments.
  8. to function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.
  9. to communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large.
  10. to create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
  11. to apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.
  12. to recognise the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

KES 1233 Circuit Theory I This course includes fundamentals of electric circuit, the resistive circuits, techniques of circuit analysis, introduction of inductors and capacitors, basic RL and RC of 1st and 2nd order circuits and introduction of Sinusoids and Phasors.
KES 2153 Circuit Theory II This course focuses on AC circuit analysis techniques, AC power analysis, magnetically coupled circuits, series and parallel resonance circuit, passive and active filters, application of Laplace Transform and two
KES 3164 Signal and System This course focuses on the concepts of different type of signal and systems, and the application of various mathematical tools (Solution of LT Differential and Difference equations using method of undetermined coeficient, Laplace, Fourier, Discrete-time Fourier and Z Transform) to analyze and synthesis linear continous and discrete time dynamic systems.
KES 3153 Electromagnetic Theory This course introduces students to basic understanding and theories in the area of electrostatic, magnetostatic and electromagnetic fields. This elementary electromagnetic field theory is summarized in Maxwell’s equations for static and time varying fields in integral and differential forms.
KES 2143 Measurement and Instrumentation This course will introduce the students with the basic principle of measurement and demonstrate the operation and application of electronic instruments. It will covers the following topics : measurement concepts, AC and DC meters, oscilloscope (CRO), bridges circuit and transducers application
KRS 3213 Control System This course deals with the fundamentals of control systems, mathematical model and the corresponding transfer function for linear time-invariant systems, analytical and design technique of system response in time-domain and frequency domain.
KRS 4213 Advance Control System This course focuses on the analysis and design of controllers for continous time systems using state space techniques, and the analysis and design of digital controllers using several methods in both the time and frequency domains for discrete time systems.
KES 1123 Digital Electronics This course aims to provide the students with a thorough understanding of the principles and practical aspects of modern digital circuits and systems. It will cover the following topics: number systems and codes, logic gates and Boolean algebra, K-Maps method, combinational logic circuits, MSI logic circuits and sequential circuit (flip flops).
KES 2114 Electronics 1 This course includes fundamental of semiconductor material and PN junction, diodes and its application, the analysis of Bipolar Junction Transistor(BJT) and Field Effect Transistor(FET) biasing configutaion.
KPS 2213 Electrical Technology To provide students an essential principle underlying the operation of electromagnetic devices such as magnetic circuits, transformer, dc machines and the three phase system.
KPS 3113 Electrical Machine This course consists of five areas, namely synchronous machines (generator and motor), AC motor (Induction motor), three phase transformer, and stepper motor. Accordingly this course aims to cover the types of AC machines and relevant calculations, stepper motor and three phase transformer.
KPS 2213 Power Electronics This course is a continuation of analog electronics and reinforces the students understanding on analysis, theory, design and application of static power converters.
KPS 4223 Power Electronics and Drives This course is a continuation of Power Electronics and reinforces the students understanding of analysis, theory, design and application of static power converters in speed control operation of DC and AC motors.
KPS 4113 Protection System This course is designed to understand the modern electric power system protection and help students to explore the theories, tools and instruments applied in power system protection. Topics, such as, Current transformer, voltage transformer, protective relay, over current protection schemes, distance protection schemes, and deferential protection schemes will be covered in detail.
KPS 4233 High Voltage Engineering This course is designed to understand high voltage theory and help students to explore high voltage methods of generation and application. Topics, such as, breakdown in gases liquids and solid dielectric, methods used in generation of high AC, DC and impulse voltage and t methods used in measurement will be covered in detail.
KES 3214 Communication System This course includes the theory and principles of analog and digital modulation system. Topic includes the introduction of communication system such as basic modulation theory, types of modulator and demodulator, introduction to RF circuits. Students are exposed to analog system such as AM, FM and PM also digital system such as ASK, PSK, FSK. Method of converting analog to digital signal will also be highlighted like PCM, quantization and encoding. Finally, the discussion about transmission line will be included.
KPS 2223 Introduction to Power System To provide students with the basic concept of power system structure including Malaysia power industry and to give students an ability to analyzed the concept of power system load modeling and operation of electric power systemand ng Malaysia power industry
KPS 3213 Power System Analysis To instill confidence and understanding of those concepts of power system analysis that are likely to be encountered in the study and practice of electric power engineering.
KPS 1112 Electrical Workshop The course will enhance the students ‘knowledge on regulation and practice of electrical wiring. They will learn Introduction to Safety, Cable and cabling, understand the latest IEE wiring regulation and acts of Energy and Gas Commission assessment; understand the roles and duties of building services supervisor enable students to design simple power distribution system.
KPS 3223 Electrical Engineering Project The course concentrate on engineering system design process and student’s skill and capability in problem analysis and solving, system design, project implementation and management.
KPS 4123 Electrical Energy Utilization Accordingly this course aims to cover the various types of conventional plant operation and understanding of electrical energy utilisation. The importance of alternative power generation, energy tariff, energy efficiency and operation strategies also been covered in this course.
KES 2263 Microprocessor This course introduces the candidates to microprocessor 8085 architecture, assembly programming techniques and interfacing of microprocessor with other computer components.
KFS 2143 Computer Programming To equip students with the techniques of engineering and scientific problem solving using C language, including data types, mathematical computations, control structures, functions, arrays, pointers, and data structures.
KFS 1141 Engineering Drawing Introduction to basic foundation of technical drawing including methods, procedures and principles.
KES 1223 Solid State Electronic Devices This course addresses the basic solid state physics and electronic structure of materials. An introduction to the theory of quantized energy levels and energy bands in solid. The basic concepts of concentration and carrier transport in solid will be covered. PN junction theory is developed and applied to the analysis of operation of solid state devices such as bipolar and field effect transistor.
KJS 2123 Themodynamics This course focuses on thermodynamics characteristic and properties, energy and energy transfer, process, open and closed system analysis and entropy principle.
KPS 4133 Power Stability and Control To introduce the students with fundamental concept and importance of stability in power system and discover the basic of modern power system control theories and techniques used to improve the voltage stability
KPS 4143 Power Generation and Conversion To instill confidence of those concepts of modern power system generation and conversion that is likely to be encountered in the study and practice of electric power engineering. The next topic covered by the course is UPS system, which include UPS classification, applications, converter topologies and control methods.
KPS 4213 Electrical Power Quality To introduce to the student the fundamentals and design of electrical distribution systems. In addition, power quality matter and the power factor improvement are also introduced in this course.
KRS 4123 Microcontroller This course introduces the concept and requirement of microcontroller based system. This includes the characteristic of microcontroller based system, hardware and software development. Covers design of hardware and software for microcontroller systems using a modern single chip microcontroller so as to elucidate the practical applications of microcontrollers to a variety of embedded systems design and interfacing for real industrial. Emphasis is placed on assembly language programming of the microcontroller, interfacing with higher-level languages.
KFS 3336 Industrial Training This course exposes students to the latest technology and management utilized by industry and enable the students to gain experience and exposure to the working environment in organizations.
KFS 4132 Final Year Project 1 This course expose students with the knowledge of research; citation of literature review, identify appropriate materials, equipment and the methodology that has to be implemented and brought forward in the Thesis level.
KFS 4234 Final Year Project 2 This course exposed the students with the knowledge of research methodology, collecting the data and analyses the results in an appropriate manner.

Graduates are able to pursue a wide range of careers such as electrical distribution engineer, power system engineer, power station engineer, solar engineer, M&E Engineer, maintenance/operation engineer, project engineer or research/test engineer.

Expected Salary

  • Public Sector: Basic starting monthly salary is around RM2,000; plus allowances (such as housing and entertainment) the total can amount to around RM2,500.
  • Private Sector: The amount of basic starting monthly salary can vary from the above amount. However, the total amount of monthly salary earned (inclusive of allowances) is subject to negotiation and which can be higher than that earned in the public sector.
