Programme Description

INTRODUCTION

Economic and industrial growth in Malaysia has led to an increase in demand and high growth in the transport infrastructure, especially in areas of port development, airports as well as the road and rail transport system.

This three-year programme covers areas such as Economics, Management, Marketing, Law, Logistics and Transport Planning. Issues in Transport, the role of the government and transport user bodies are also emphasized. In the final semester, students will undergo industrial training and will produce an academic paper.

RECOGNITION
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) UK recognizes the BBA (Hons) Transport. Graduates are exempted from all CILT professional qualifying examination papers. Upon graduation, graduates are eligible to apply for Chartered Member of Institute of Logistics and Transport (CMILT) UK.

Admission of students is twice a year through:

Unit Pusat Universiti – June intake
Universiti Teknologi MARA – December intake

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Minimum qualification for STPM candidates

Passed SPM or its equivalent, with 5 credits which include English, Mathematics and Bahasa Malaysia / Bahasa Melayu.
STPM, passed with Grade B in 1 subject and Grade C in any two other subjects including General Paper with minimum CGPA of 2.30.
Have taken the MUET.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Passed with a Diploma from UiTM or other institutions recognized as its equivalent by the government, with a minimum CGPA of 2.30 and 3.00 respectively. Candidates who do not comply with this requirement, would need to have at least two (2) years working experience.
Have taken the MUET.
Credit in Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia

ASSESSMENT

Students are continuously assessed based on tests, assignments, term papers, class seminars and final examination. They will have to undergo practical training and finally submit an academic paper which are both compulsory.

Course Outline

COURSE CONTENT

Year One

The first year exposes students to the fundamentals of business. They will learn a range of preparatory courses including Information Technology, Economics, Marketing, Management and Business Law. As most of the courses are conducted in English, the strengthening of this language is emphasized throughout the year. The transport fundamentals are introduced in the second semester.
Year Two
The transport modules will be taught during the second year, beginning with the understanding of societal needs for transport, Law of Carriage and Logistics Management. Besides that, Business Operations and functional areas of transport like Marketing of Services, Operational Management, Human Resource and International Business are accentuated.

Year Three

The practical aspects of transport practices pertaining to current issues and policies are empirically stressed and discussed. At this juncture students are given the option to select between area and traffic elective courses. In the final semester, students have to undergo a three-month practical attachment in any transport related organization and later submit a project paper to complete this program successfully. This training will ensure a smooth transition from the academic world to the working environment.

Career Opportunity

The opportunities at the middle management level cover areas of logistics, marketing of the transport industry, shipping and maritime, aviation, land transport (road and rail), manufacturing and production line, enforcement agencies and research and consultancy business.
