Traditionally Business Schools all over the world have been producing business graduates who are either functional specialist or generalists. Functional specialists such as degree holders in Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource Management take on jobs as marketers, financial analyst, and human resource experts respectively. Although the specialist degree goes in-depth academically, it does not provide knowledge of any particular industry.
Generalist degree holders from programmes such as the BA (Hons) in Business Administration, BA(Hons) in Business Studies on the other hand, often compete with functional specialists for the same jobs. However, the former are ‘jack of all trade and master of none’. They get to learn a bit of all management issues but are unable to intellectually stimulate decision- making due to lack of in-depth knowledge of any specific subject. Binary University’s BA(Hons) in Management fills the gap between the functional specialists and the generalists.
The BA (Hons) in Business Management aims to produce Industry Specialist Professionals (ISPs); business graduates who have an in-depth practical knowledge about a particular industry; knowledge that would be least expected of a fresh graduate by an employer.
Our business and marketing graduates are unique as they are ISP graduates (Industrial Specialist Professionals). As an ISP, you are provided with extensive practical exposure in a specific industry through multiple hands-on projects and assignments. Hence you become highly valuable to prospective employers because of your specialist understanding of the industry in which your employer operates.
