This program provides foundational knowledge and training in chemical analysis, which addresses the needs of the industry, and hence indirectly acting as one of the many latent forces in driving Malaysia in achieving vision 2020. As a science, analytical chemistry is an area that cannot be ignored in the current scientific scene, as areas such as bioscience or physical science make use of analytical chemistry to affirm hypothesis and derived theories.
The programme equips students with technical knowledge of analytical chemistry. The students will also be made aware of international standards that bound them to the society and industry. They will have an opportunity to work with industry through their internship and to carry out a real-life research project on analytical chemsity. All such training will add value to their qualification and later to their employers.
The Analytical Chemistry program prepares graduates to be on the cutting edge of discovering, developing safer pesticides, and safer drugs, new materials for humans, as well as resolving environmental issues such as involvement in environmental monitoring activities, thus, improving the quality of life.
Analytical chemistry discipline is the study of the separation, identification, and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials. Qualitative analysis gives an indication of the identity of the chemical species in the sample and quantitative analysis determines the amount of one or more of these components. The separation of components is often performed prior to analysis. Analytical chemistry also focuses on improvements in experimental design, chemometrics, and the creation of new measurement tools to provide better chemical information. Analytical chemistry has applications in forensics, bioanalysis, clinical analysis, environmental analysis, and materials analysis. As a scientific field which has such great diversity in its application, graduates trained in this program will surely be in great demand in the chemical related industries.
Graduates of this programme will have the employment opportunity in the following analytical chemistry related careers:
