Programme Description
Photonics engineering is a field of study based on light and its applications. Some of the main applications is in automotive manufacturing, where lasers are used to weld the car structure. Apart from that, the use of lasers can also be found in the medical field to kill cancerous cells, in the defense for distance measurement, in entertainment as laser presentation in optical telecommunications as the medium to transmit data. The objective of this programme is to produce highly competent photonics engineers with a high knowledge of optical engineering science and able to contribute to the needs of the industry.This programme covers three components, namely introduction to photonics, device and photonic light characterisation and lastly photonic engineering applications.
