Program Description

The Bachelor of Education (Hons) Mathematics Degree Program is a program that prepares students to apply the mathematics instructional skills in the secondary schools, matriculation and other private collages or institutions. The program focuses on the mathematics education, mathematical thinking and mastery of mathematics content knowledge such as Mathematical Foundation, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Numerical Analysis, Foundation of Mechanics and Statistics. Besides that, pedagogical content knowledge is also emphasized in significant courses such as Problem Solving in Mathematics, Methods of Teaching Mathematics and English for the Teaching of Mathematics.

Major Mathematics and minor either in Biology, Physics or Chemistry.
Major Biology and minor either in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.
Major Physics and minor either in Mathematics, Biology or Chemistry.
Major Chemistry and minor either in Mathematics, Biology and Physics.

The B. Ed. Science Mathematics programme has its own student body known as the MAESSA (Mathematics Education Student Association).

Entry Requirements

Interested candidates who wish to join this program should fulfill the following conditions:

• STPM } 3 principal passes including Mathematics, General Paper and one among the followings: Biology, Chemistry or Physics (Mathematics Major) } 3 principal passes including Biology, General Paper and one among the followings: Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics (Biology Major) } 3 principal passes including Physics, General Paper and one among the followings: Mathematics, Biology or Chemistry (Physics Major) } 3 principal passes including Chemistry , General Paper and one among the followings: Mathematics, Biology or Physics (Chemistry Major); OR
• Ministry of Education Matriculation certificate with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 OR Diploma from UiTM or other recognized institution (related field) with a minimum CGPA or 2.50; OR
• Teachers’ training college diplomas/Certificates with a minimum of 5 years experience in teaching Mathematics/Sciences AND SPM/SPMV with a minimum of five (5) credits including: }Additional Mathematics (for Math Majors)} Biology/Physics/Chemistry (for Science Majors)} Mathematics} Bahasa Melayu} English;AND
• MUET (minimum Band 3); AND
• Pass the MEDSI (Malaysian Educators Selection Inventory) written test, and interview as required by the Ministry of Higher Education.
