This undergraduate programme aims to produce graduates who are competent in Arabic language and literature and able to contribute toward the development of the Ummah. The duration of study for this programme is normally 4 years.
Programme Description
The programme is designed based on IIUM vision and mission which is Integration, Islamization, Internationalization, and Comprehensive Excellence. The core knowledge areas covered are:
- Arabic linguistics (syntax, morphology, semantics, lexicography, phonetics and phonology, etc.)
- Arabic literature (classical-modern Arabic poetry, prose, criticism, rhetoric, prosody, etc.)
- Applied linguistics (translation, teaching, computer-assisted language learning, etc.)
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirements are according to the following tracks:
TRACK 1
A pass in the Higher School Certificate (STPM) with a CGPA of 3.00 or at least:
- A C grade with a 2.0 point in the General Paper
- A C grade with a 2.0 point in any two relevant subjects
AND
A pass in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) or its equivalent with at least:
- A credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia
- A B grade in Pendidikan Islam/Tassawur Islam/Pengajian Qur’an dan Sunnah/Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah
- A B+ in Bahasa Arab Tinggi or A- in Bahasa Arab Komunikasi
- A credit in Mathematics
- A D grade in English language
- A credit in any two other subjects
TRACK 2
A Diploma or its equivalent with a CGPA of 3.00, provided that it is approved by the Malaysian Government and endorsed by the University Senate
AND
A pass in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) or its equivalent with at least:
- A credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia
- A B grade in Pendidikan Islam/Tassawur Islam/Pengajian Qur’an dan Sunnah/Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah
- A B+ in Bahasa Arab Tinggi or A- in Bahasa Arab Komunikasi
- A credit in Mathematics
- A D grade in English language
- A credit in any two other subjects
TRACK 3
A pass in the relevant Centre for Foundation Studies programme with a minimum CGPA of 2.25.
TRACK 4
A pass in the Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with at least a Jayyid Jiddan grade.
AND
A pass in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) or its equivalent with at least:
- A credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia
- A B grade in Pendidikan Islam/Tassawur Islam/Pengajian Qur’an dan Sunnah/Pendidikan Syariah Islamiah
- A B+ in Bahasa Arab Tinggi or A- in Bahasa Arab Komunikasi
- A credit in Mathematics
- A D grade in English language
- A credit in any two other subjects
In all the tracks above, a minimum of Band 2 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) is required.
TRACK 5
A pass in overseas qualifications deemed by the Senate to be equivalent to GCSE A Level with good grades.
In all the tracks, a minimum Arabic Placement Test (APT) score of 6.0 and a minimum English Placement Test (EPT) score of 5.5 are required.
