INTRODUCTION
Physics is the foundation of modern science. It encompasses the study of the universe from the largest galaxies to the structure of matter: the atom, the nucleus, and quarks. Its concepts, from relativity to quantum mechanics, challenge the imagination. In other words physics students learn how the laws of nature can be used to explain the many phenomena of our world and the universe. Our physics programme will provide a wide range of physics knowledge from classical mechanics, relativity, quantum mechanics, and elementary particles to astrophysics. With strong physics fundamentals and good mathematical tools, we hope our graduates will be able to embark on frontier physics research which would lead them to be future nobel laureate candidates.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this programme is to produce graduates that have these attributes: (i) strong and in depth knowledge in fundamental sciences, (ii) skill in research, (iii) smart, innovative, creative and critical thinking with strong mental, (iv) communication skills and ability in problem solving, (v) ability to work as a team.
CAREERS
Owing to their training, physicists excel at solving complex problems, which allow them to seek employment in a wide range of academic, government, and industrial settings. Those who enjoy teaching and research can pursue their study to the postgraduate level, which would enable them to work as academicians. Those who are interested in research can find opportunities either in the industry or government laboratories.
