INTRODUCTION
This programme provides an opportunity for students to enter the exciting field of industrial mathematics. The programme emphasizes a broad education within mathematics, and students gain real world experiences by participating in industrial training. Students in this programme are exposed to various research areas done by academic staff in the department. These include industrial statistics, mathematical optimization, neural networks, scientific computing and numerical analysis, and fluid mechanics. Students can also solve advanced mathematical problems for industries in their final year project.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of this course is to produce graduates who are (i) able to apply their mathematical knowledge and skills in the analysis, planning, and job supervision related to industries and public sectors, (ii) competent in solving problems critically, logically, creatively and analytically based on facts and sound ideas, (iii) capable of working effectively in multi-disciplinary project team, (iv) responsive and adaptable to changing situations and willing to continue learning independently in the acquisition of new knowledge and skills.
CAREERS
Graduates of this programme can work in various areas, such as quality control in industries, quality assurance, financial institutions, inventory control, project management, and as educators or researchers.
