Medical Science is defined as the science of dealing with the maintenance of health and the prevention and treatment of disease.
Medical Science in Clinical Pathology (Forensic Pathology)
Forensic pathology is a specialised area of pathology where autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death, untimely or otherwise. Untimely death however is not limited to violent crimes such as homicide, suicide or accident. They also include suspicious death, sudden and unexpected death, death in children and infants, prisoners, persons under the care of an institution, or where illicit drugs and alcohol may have contributed to the death. However, approximately half of all deaths examined by a forensic pathologist are natural deaths occurring in absence of injury.
The Forensic pathologist is also an expert witness in the court of law, testifying in a variety of civil and criminal cases involving death or injury.
Entry Requirements
General requirements
Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Malaya or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate;
And
At least one year of post-registration clinical experience approved by the Senate.
Other requirements
Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia;
And
Satisfies the Department’s requirement in an Entrance Evaluation recognized by the Faculty.
Language Requirement
Foreign candidates are required to:
Have at least IELTS Band 6 or TOEFL 550 if their first degree is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction.
Or
Pass an English proficiency test approved by the University.
Programme Structure
This Master’s programme, offered by the Faculty of Medicine, requires candidates to fulfill both coursework as outlined by the department, and clinical duties as assigned. Successful completion of the programme is also subject to the standards set by the Faculty.
