This programme is a multidisciplinary programme offered by the Faculty of Law with the cooperation of the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Guest lecturers from outside the university are also invited from time to time.
The programme fulfills the need to train professional and skilled personnel who are involved in the criminal justice system. The programme is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the criminal justice system and covers concepts of crime, deviance, justice, criminology, exercise of police powers, as well as crime scene investigations. Issues of law enforcement, judicial and juvenile justice and corrections will also be explored. The course is suitable for the training of law practitioners and law enforcement personnel, social workers as well as those who want to build a career in the criminal justice system.
Applicants for admission must submit to the Registrar a detailed statement of their degree(s), qualifications, relevant experience and, where relevant, the proposed field of research to be undertaken. Applications are then considered by the Higher Degrees Committee of the Faculty which submits its recommendations to the Faculty for approval. Faculty will report the successful applicants to the Senate.
