PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The Master of Software Engineering degree aims to provide Bachelor’s degree holders in computer science or related fields with opportunities to broaden their foundation knowledge and skills through advanced courses and research in software engineering. It is also appropriate for students who wish to pursue leadership positions, careers in research and development, or a Ph.D

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The Master of Software Engineering Programme consisting of coursework and dissertation shall consist of fifty-six (56) credit hours comprising two parts, namely :

Part I which shall consists of :

• three core courses, two with three credit hours and one with four credit hour; and
• two elective courses, each three credit hours.

Part II which shall consists of fourty (40) credit hours, shall consist of research leading to the submission of a dissertation.

A candidate may be imposed to enroll in other courses and obtain satisfactory results deemed necessary by the Faculty.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

For admission into the Master of Software Engineering program, applicants must have at least:

For Coursework & Dissertation Mode

• Bachelor’s degree with Honours or a comparable degree in the field of Computer Science or Information Technology or in a field related to the study of software engineering; or
• Bachelor’s degree with Honours or a comparable degree whereby courses in software engineering were included in the programme of study; or
• Bachelor’s degree with Honours or a comparable degree and have working experience ofat least three years in a profession related to software development; or
• Diploma in Computer Science from University of Malaya or a post-degree diploma in thefield of Computer Science or Information Technology of another accredited institution; or
• Other qualifications approved by the Senate from time to time.

International applicants are required to have :

• at least IELTS Band 6 or TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) / 213 (computer-based) /80 (Internet-based) if their first degree is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction; or
• pass an English proficiency test approved by the University.

Preference will be given to applicants having a Bachelor’s degree with CGPA of 3.0 or higher.

DURATION OF PROGRAMME

For Coursework & Dissertation Mode
The programme of study extends over a minimum period of three (3) regular semesters. While the maximum period is eight (8) semesters.
