The Master’s degree by research is under the supervision of an experienced member of academic staff or a supervisory panel. A panel is made up of graduate staff and experts from either within or outside the University. The minimum duration of studies is 2 years full-time and 3 years part-time.

The academic progress of research student is evaluated twice a year through progress reports. The degree is examined through the presentation of a thesis and a viva voce examination. A student who has satisfied the Graduate Studies Committee in all aspects of their work is eligible for the award of Master’s degree.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS ( as approved by Senate Nos. 05/2012 -119^th )

Candidates must meet UNIMAS general requirements and specific requirements of the program. UNIMAS general requirements are as follows:-

Master of Philosophy Program

The minimum requirements for admission to a Master program are:

• A Bachelor Degree with Honors with CGPA 2.75 and above from any institution of higher learning that is recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak;

OR

• An applicant whose CGPA qualifications of a Bachelor Degree with Honours are lower than 2.75 may be admitted if evidence of an adequate academic background and professional experience in an appropriate field can be shown.

Doctor of Philosophy Program

• Masters Degree from any institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak;

OR

• Any other qualifications and relevant experiences that are recognized by the Senate of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak as equivalent to the above.

English Requirement

For international students, a minimum IELTS Score of 6.0 or its equivalent (eg.TOEFL-525; TOEFL Computer Test -196; TOEFL Internet Test 69-70) is required.
