Psychology is a discipline involved in the scientific study of mental processes and human behaviours. Psychology also entails the application of such knowledge to different aspects of human activity, including problems faced by individuals in their daily lives and the treatment of mental illness.
This programme offers an in-depth view to the psychological principles for the treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders and developmental disabilities, achieved by various approaches of psychotherapies. Students will be exposed to advanced psychology, abnormal psychology, statistics, testing theory, psychological testing, psychological theory, research methods, psychotherapeutic techniques, and psychosocial evaluation.
Entry Requirements
General requirements
Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Malaya or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate;
And
At least one year of post-registration clinical experience approved by the Senate.
Other requirements
Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia;
And
Satisfies the Department’s requirement in an Entrance Evaluation recognized by the Faculty.
Language Requirement
Foreign candidates are required to:
Have at least IELTS Band 6 or TOEFL 550 if their first degree is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction.
Or
Pass an English proficiency test approved by the University.
Programme Structure
This Master’s programme, offered by the Faculty of Medicine, requires candidates to fulfill both coursework as outlined by the department, and clinical duties as assigned. Successful completion of the programme is also subject to the standards set by the Faculty.
