The year was 1981 when the first AIDS case was reported to the medical community. Today, AIDS has claimed more than 25 million lives, affecting people from all over the world, from all walks of life. The challenge AIDS is but one of the areas that an expert in Public Health can address in the course of their careers.
Public health is a discipline devoted to preventing disease and promoting health in the human population. This programme prepares students to handle these challenges through multidisciplinary methods that fuse the latest scientific knowledge, rational thinking and collaboration.
Whether students opt to eliminate the threat of an infectious disease, discuss the impact of genetic engineering or improve the country’s health policy, the Master of Public Health offered by UM will definitely aid students in their attempts to improve the health of the population.
Entry Requirements
General requirements
Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Malaya or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate;
And
At least one year of post-registration clinical experience approved by the Senate.
Other requirements
Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia;
And
Satisfies the Department’s requirement in an Entrance Evaluation recognized by the Faculty.
Language Requirement
Foreign candidates are required to:
Have at least IELTS Band 6 or TOEFL 550 if their first degree is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction.
Or
Pass an English proficiency test approved by the University.
Programme Structure
This Master’s programme, offered by the Faculty of Medicine, requires candidates to fulfill both coursework as outlined by the department, and clinical duties as assigned. Successful completion of the programme is also subject to the standards set by the Faculty.
