Doctors of internal medicine are medical specialists who have had special study and training focussed on the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. The name “internal medicine” in itself is misleading, as Doctors of internal medicine treat patients as a whole, internally and externally and not just internal organs. Doctors of internal medicine are also consulted by other physicians on particularly puzzling diagnoses.
However, Doctors of internal medicine can also choose to subspecialise in one of a number of internal medicine specialities, generally organised by organ system – for example Cardiology.
Entry Requirements
General requirements
Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Malaya or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate;
And
At least one year of post-registration clinical experience approved by the Senate.
Other requirements
Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia;
And
Satisfies the Department’s requirement in an Entrance Evaluation recognized by the Faculty.
Language Requirement
Foreign candidates are required to:
Have at least IELTS Band 6 or TOEFL 550 if their first degree is from a university where English is not the medium of instruction.
Or
Pass an English proficiency test approved by the University.
Programme Structure
This Master’s programme, offered by the Faculty of Medicine, requires candidates to fulfill both coursework as outlined by the department, and clinical duties as assigned. Successful completion of the programme is also subject to the standards set by the Faculty.
