PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
The Master of Computer Science degree aims to provide undergraduate degree holders in computer science or related fields with opportunities to broaden their foundation knowledge and skills through advanced courses and research. It is also appropriate for students who wish to pursue leadership positions, careers in research and development, or a Ph.D.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Revised Programme Structure for Master of Computer Science
The Master of Computer Science Programme through coursework and dissertation shallhave a total of fifty-six (56) credit hours. The details are as shown below.
For Coursework & Dissertation Mode
The programme shall consist of two parts :
Part I comprises :
Candidates may be imposed to enroll in other courses and obtain satisfactory resultsdeemed necessary by the Faculty.
Part II shall consist of fourty (40) credit hours and shall involve research leading to thesubmission of a dissertation.
Through Dissertation Mode
This programme shall consist of one hundred percent (100 %) research workleading to the submission of a dissertation.
Candidates may be imposed to enroll in other courses and obtain satisfactory results deemed necessary by the Faculty.
Currently, candidates are only required to take a Research Foundations course during their first semester of enrolment.

Preference will be given to applicants having a Bachelor’s degree with CGPA of 3.0 or higher.

For Coursework & Dissertation Programme
The programme of study extends over a minimum period of three (3) regular semesters. While the maximum period is eight (8) semesters.
For Dissertation Programme
The programme of study extends over a minimum period of two (2) regular semesters. While the maximum period is eight (8) semesters.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
University of Malaya has two intakes per year, in February and inSeptember. The call for application is advertised in local newspapers and on the website of Institute of Graduate Studies at http://www.ips.um.edu.my
