The IMU Foundation in Science (FIS) provides the academic preparation required for admission into a science-related degree. Students will be equipped with strong fundamental knowledge and skills to pursue study in the areas of medicine and health sciences.
Subject to specific entry requirement, the completion of the Foundation in Science will allow students to gain entry into IMU degree programmes or to other degree programmes in Malaysian universities as it is a MQA accredited programme.
Students will enjoy the exposure to science given by IMU lecturers through workshops, seminars, experiments in the laboratories or lectures by visiting professors from IMU’s partner universities. This opportunity will build the students’ interest in a particular field and help students to choose the pathway leading to their career choice.
The Foundation in Science is awarded by IMU, Malaysia’s first and most established private medical and healthcare university with over 21 years of dedicated focus in healthcare education.
The Foundation in Science gives you a direct route and preferred enrolment into one of the undergraduate programmes in medicine and health sciences in IMU.
As a student at IMU, you will have access to academic experts in medical and health sciences education.
You will have access to our University facilities and can take advantage of the on-and-off campus activities within the campus community. This gives students an early integration into a medical and health sciences university from the start of the Foundation in Science.
With its affordable fees, the Foundation in Science has a high quality curriculum and offers three start dates across the year so you can choose the time frame that is most suitable for you.
The Foundation in Science is a 1-yr programme and conducted in 3 semesters. Assessment will be in-course as well as summative. Students are taught the core academic subjects together with English language and are required to achieve a band score of 6.0 for IELTS at the end of the programme.
The Cross Boundary Studies offered will enable students to work in collaborative groups to explore an issue in a multidisciplinary approach, strategise and implement changes to have a positive impact on the issue. Students will be able to communicate how they apply their knowledge and apply it to solve the issue of concern.
Selected modules will be linked to the IMU degree programme to enable lecturers in these programmes to build linkages and introduce health science specialisations to the students.
Students will be assessed through class tests, end of semester examinations, practical work, reports, assignments, problem-based learning sessions, projects and presentations of their work.
