Programme Description
The Centre for Global Archaeological Research offers MA degree in Archaeology. The intent of the programme is to provide appropriate education and training through thesis writing on the recovery, analysis and interpretation of archaeological sites, materials and context while simultaneously assuring that sufficient background is obtained in history and scientific archaeology.
The PhD programme offers concentration only in archaeology. It emphasises a sound understanding of archaeological science, interdisciplinary training and the development of practical skills. The programme is designed to integrate experiences and perspectives of research throughout the thesis writing with strong theoretical and methodological training.

Admission Requirements
Applicants should possess the following:
PhD
- A Master’s or Bachelor’s (First Class Honours or CGPA > 3.67/4) degree in related areas.
- Degrees awarded by local private institutions of higher learning including those awarded under any collaborative/franchising schemes with local or international partners must be accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
- Other academic or professional qualifications by Professional Bodies in related proposals.
Language Requirement
(Applicable for International Applicants Only)
- A minimum score of 550 in Paper- based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); or
- A minimum score of 213 in Computer-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) ; or
- A minimum score of 80 in Internet-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) ; or
- A minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
- Passed the USM’s Intensive English Course Level III.
- Results must be attached with the application form.
