Programme Description

The Diploma in Nursing is designed to train graduates to become a professional nurse. Upon completion of 3 years programme, a graduate is eligible to sit for the Board of Nursing Examination for licensure as a registered nurse. The Diploma certification is recognised, certified and approved by the Malaysian Nursing Board.

Programme Aim

To produce calibre and safe nurses who are able to critically analyse and deliver quality nursing care professionally to all clients in a multidisciplinary healthcare organisation locally and globally.

Career Prospects

Nurses are able to specialise in various fields such as medical and surgical, midwifery, pediatric, cardiothoracic, orthopedic, ophthalmology, gerontology, public health and many more. Nurses with a Diploma can further their studies to Degree, Masters or PhD locally or abroad. The demand for professional nurses are high in most parts of the world. At least 130,000 nurses are needed to be trained by the year 2020 to meet the WHO�s nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:200.

Practical Training in Nursing:

Students are posted to various government hospitals in Malaysia.


Candidates must have SPM/SPMV/O-Level/UEC, according to specific requirements as stated below:

  • For Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) programme, a credit in Mathematics and Science and a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English is required Or a pass in UEC with 1 B and minimum C for Science, Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia and English
  • For Occupational Therapy programme, a credit in Science and a pass in Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia and English is required
  • For Physiotherapy Programme, a credit in Science or Sport Science is required with a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English
  • For Nursing programme, 5 credits inclusive of Mathematics and Science, a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and English is required
  • For Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy programmes, candidates should not have any disabilities that may affect their studies or future employment
