Programme Description
What is medical laboratory technology?
A clinical laboratory technician and allied health professional who, under the supervision of a pathologist or other physician, clinical laboratory scientist/medical technologist, or other medical scientist, performs specialized chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests of blood, tissue, and fluids.
What does a Medical Laboratory Technician do?
They Perform a full range of laboratory tests.
They are also responsible for the accuracy of the test results, and reporting laboratory findings to medical laboratory technologists, pathologists, and other physicians.
They operate complex electronic equipment, computers and instruments.

MODE OF DELIVERY
Delivery of the curriculum is mainly in the form of lectures, tutorials and practical sessions in the first two years. Final year students will be exposed to hands-on clinical sessions, demonstrations and presentations during hospital attachments and are subjected to the actual clinical condition of patients.
ADMISSION / ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should have the following: |

SPM / SPMV / O-Level pass with at least 3 credits in any subjects including Science or any other Science subjects. |

MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN CAREER PATHWAY

Most medical laboratory technicians work in the laboratories in hospitals and clinics. |

Some are employed in commercial medical laboratories that run tests for doctors and hospitals on a fee basis. E.g. Pathlab, BP Lab, Gribbles. |

Others work in research institutes, colleges, universities and pharmaceutical company. |
