Overview
Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs), as members of the healthcare team, are professionals who perform laboratory analysis and provide information to physicians which helps doctors to diagnose and treat patients, as well as monitor and prevent disease.
Medical Laboratory Technologists perform a variety of sophisticated diagnostic procedures. They must have good motor skills, hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. In addition to technical skills, they are required to possess a strong attention to detail to detect subtle changes in the microscopic appearance of blood, tissue and microscopic organisms. MLTs must also ensure the validity of the results they obtain, which requires analytical and critical thinking skill. MLTs work in an ever-evolving environment, and on occasions need to adopt new procedures in line with the rapid pace of change in medical laboratory sciences as well as the changing disease patterns.
