Interactive Multimedia Design is the use of computer technology to present text, graphics, video, animation and sound in an integrated way. It is excitement and stimulation in sight, sound and motion. Interactive Multimedia Design is a very powerful form of communication offering a wide range of creative career opportunities.

The Diploma in Interactive Multimedia & Animation Designcreates far-reaching opportunities in an exciting and rapidly expanding area of multimedia technology and a variety of vocational, research and further study options.

The course aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge to author, design and develop digital content and apply appropriate design solutions for interactive multimedia products in the retail, entertainment, educational and tourism industries.

The content of the course reflects the requirements of the design industry to combine structured teaching with independent learning.

This development is nurtured through a series of design projects and involves the use of multimedia computers to create, and manipulate text, graphic, images, 2D / 3D animation, sound and video into interactive multimedia products suitable for marketing and distribution through online services such as the Internet and Intranet as well as CD-ROM and DVD mediums.



Multimedia design graduates can enter a wide range of careers both inside and outside IT. With the necessary qualification in multimedia design you will be prepared to pursue entry-level positions with film studios, television stations, advertising agencies, and video production studios and animation houses. Employers are always seeking designers who are well-trained, open to new ideas, and can adapt well to changing trends.

Graduates with skills in interactive multimedia have many well-paid career opportunities available to them. The continuing development of communication systems such as the Internet and DVD technology has led to widespread demand for designers who can work creatively with new technologies.

Graduates find work as web designers, production managers, streaming specialists, Flash developers and as well as animators.

Wanganui School of Design + University of Waikato offers graduates of PJCAD the opportunity to seek credit exemption for Year 1 and Year 2 of the Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design degree program.
