The Diploma in Environmental Health programme incorporates all the components of Environmental Health, namely air, food and water quality, soil pollution, waste management, noise pollution, pest control, housing and the use of hazardous substances. It also places a strong emphasis on communication and educational skills, the principles of human behaviour, and the ability to resolve problems.
An important prerequisite is the students personal conviction of the need to protect human welfare by maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
Graduates of this three-year Diploma in Environmental Health can qualify to become Assistant Environmental Health Officers and use their specialised skills and knowledge to develop, co-ordinate, monitor, assess, implement and enforce public health policies or laws.
They work to ensure that people have a better quality of life and live within a healthier society, important aspects of their work include: food safety and nutrition, workplace health and safety, housing condition (environmental sanitation, sewerage systems and water supply systems), noise levels, odour emissions, industrial waste, animal health, contaminated land, air/water pollution control and communicable diseases including vector-borne disease control.
Diploma holders are also qualified to work for other sectors of environmental health. They can find career opportunities in research facilities, educational institutions and healthcare management sectors.
Students must have completed “O” Level Examination or Malaysian SPM / STPM Certificate or equivalent with a minimum 3 Credits (including Science and English).
