Core Course Description
Course Code | Course | Synopsis |
IAS2323 | Operation Management | Operations management is an area of business that is concerned with the production of goods and services, and involves the responsibility of ensuring that business operations are efficient and effective. It is also the management of resources, the distribution of goods and services to customers, and the analysis of queue systems. Efficient implementations of the operations can improve performance, reduce development effort, and improve software quality. |
IBS1223 | Principles of Supply Chain Management | The practice of supply chain management is becoming widespread in all industries around the globe today, and the firm quickly realized the benefits provided by supply chain management. This subject will cover supply chain management from four perspectives: purchasing, operations, logistics and the integration among supply chain participants of these three vitally important areas of the firm. |
IBS2143 | Purchasing and Supply Management | An approach to the topic of purchasing management from a strategic perspective, with a focus on organizational supply. |
IAS2273 | Operations Research | Since most of industries nowadays are becoming complex, competitive and dynamic, the decision-making process is becoming complicated as well. Making decision is of the essence but merely insufficient. What matters is to provide the best decision for the organization. In the field of operations research (OR), this is known as optimal solutions. With rapid technological developments especially computers, lots of methods for making decisions are in place. Decision makers are to apply methods that are objective, effective and efficient to achieve a huge success. OR is a scientific approach against decision-making process to determine the best method to design and manage a system that is subject to distributions of scarce resources. OR bears six characteristics: research on operation, scientific approach, practical organizational management, overall perspective, optimal solution and team-working approach. In conclusion, OR is concerned with a modeling of system from an actual situation and a finding of optimal decision. Assuming no prior knowledge of the subject area, this course provides students with an indispensable guide to OR. |
IAS2283 | Production Planning and Control | The production system is the collection of people, equipment and procedures organized to accomplish the manufacturing operations of a company. Production system can be divided into two categories those are facilities and manufacturing support systems. The facilities of the production system consist of the factory, the equipment in the factory and the way the equipment is arranged. The latter is the set of procedures used by the company to manage production and solve the technical and logistics problems encountered in ordering materials, moving work through the factory and ensuring that products meet quality standards. Product design and certain business functions are incorporated among the manufacturing support systems. |
IBS2273 | Data Analysis for Enterprise | The understanding of an enterprise and the basis for many decisions revolve around the basic understanding of the data involved. The acquisition, analysis, aggregation, and presentation of data are crucial to the effective and efficient running of enterprise. Whether the purpose is operational performance, enterprise performance, financial analysis, competitive analysis, strategic direction setting or for external decision making of partners or customers, the delivery of that data links the success of enterprise with the management. Such use of data is viewed as improving the business operation and increasing the value of enterprise. |
IAS3383 | Modelling and Simulation | The course covers fundamentals of linear programming, data aggregations, the resource-based view of the firm, integrating supply chain and marketing models, taxonomies of operational planning problems and inventory theory models. |
IAS3243 | Manufacturing System and Automation | The contents of course embrace four main parts, namely manufacturing systems, automation and control technologies, material handling technologies, and manufacturing support systems. The manufacturing systems are systems functioning to execute one or more processing and assembly operations on raw materials and work parts. These processing and assembly operations are carried out by using automation technologies without human interventions. The automation technologies such as robot and programmable logic controller are implemented through the programs incorporated with the control systems to perform the instructions. The material handling technologies are material movement, storage, protection, and control technologies encompassing manufacturing and distribution processes such as conveyor, automated storage and retrieval system, forklift, and automated guided vehicle. The material handling must be done safely, efficiently, on cheaper cost, punctually, on correct quantity and location, and free of failure. The final part is the manufacturing support systems referring to computerized systems applied to manage the production and solve logistical and technical problems such as warehouse management system, logistics management system etc. |
IBS3163 | Supply Chain Risk Management | Supply chain risk management (SCRM) is an issue that many enterprises face and yet few enterprises know how to deal with it in a systematic and pragmatic manner. While avoiding and reducing supply chain risks are certainly preferable, developing ways to restore and stabilize supply chain operations rapidly after a major disruption is critical for managing global supply chains. Therefore, SCRM is essential for risk managers or supply chain managers/operators who deal with the growing impact of risk on supply chains, its management, and how to mitigate its effects. |
IBS3153 | Logistics and Warehouse Management | This course is to introduce the concept of Logistics and Warehouse Management and evaluate its practice in today’s management. The students will be exposed to all components’ in supply chain management as well as activities in logistics management. Students are required to observe the important of information technology in enhancing smooth flow of logistics management. Students must conduct a study at the company and to come out with proposed solution on how to improve the logistics system. |
IAS2293 | E-Business | Introduction to e-business subject mostly cover the basic of understanding e-business environment. Element in e-business environment will be discuss together with the technology and architecture requirement needs to develop e-business application. CRM, SCM, e-Procurement also will be discuss in this subject. |
IAS2123 | Computer Organization | This course is to provide a thorough discussion of the fundamentals of computer organization and architecture. Its purpose is to present as clearly and completely as possible, the nature and characteristics of modern-day computer system. This course will discuss on the components of computer in terms of hardware and software. The topics relate are memory organization, CPU, storage, input/output devices, computer architecture, and low level programming such as machine language and assembly language. |
IAS2223 | Human Computer Interaction | This subject based on project to develop scientific knowledge application about human and computer for concept and techniques understanding of the interaction. Students will be given the project to apply the theory using selected tools. |
IAS2263 | System Analysis and Design | The course focuses on thorough systems analysis and design to understand what the business requires from the information systems. The analysis and design phases of the SDLC will be implemented in relevant case studies using both traditional and Unified Modeling Language (UML) approaches. As alternatives to the SDLC, several development methodologies will be examined and compared. A hands-on project should be delivered to expose the student to IT system development aspect starting from planning to system development. |
IAS2333 | Managing Information Technology | The subject analyses the usage of ICT to increase the performance of business in organization. Instead focus on the benefit of the alignment of IT and business; student also will be exposing with the IT governance and strategy in managing emerging technology in organization. |
IAS3133 | Project Management | This course is to introduce the concept of Project Management and evaluate its implementation in today’s business. Within this context particular attention will be given to the Project Management Body of Knowledge as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI).The 9 project management knowledge areas will also be highlighted, in order to ensure the students understand the project management concept. Students will understand the practical knowledge and understanding of change control and project management processes associated with the implementation of information and communications technology in business organizations. |
IAS1323 | Information Systems | The subject will study the technology and systems used in managing the organization and business information, in lieu of management and e-business. |
IAS3232 | Final Year Project 1 | This course provides information on successful software development, covering such topics as customer requirements, task estimates, principles of good design, dealing with source code, system testing, and handling bugs. |
IAS3244 | Final Year Project 2 | This course will incorporate aspects of project implementation and evaluation (production), as well as testing and the development of some form of deliverable. Student will be exposed to the project knowledge management and problem solutions. This course is integration of technical capabilities and communications skill. It is also to encourage the use of theory in handling with technical problem and presentation while developing the project. It requires product implementation as well as planned, executing functional testing, producing a project report and project presentation. |
