The skills gained from a degree in sports and exercise science could certainly fire the starting gun for an interesting and rewarding career. Graduates equipped with a good knowledge of the sports and exercise science enable them look at the science behind fitness, as well as an insight into related areas such as nutrition, psychology, management and finance.Demand is growing for sports scientists and performance consultants, as society in general develops a greater awareness of health and fitness issues around work. Graduates with sports and exercise science skills are likely to be further sought after by local authorities and other organisations. Most graduates went straight into full-time or part-time employment, with around a third in sports-related industries. Careers in education, the public sector, health and business were also popular choices. The relatively low proportion immediately employed in stop-gap retail or catering work implies there is a higher than average demand for sports science graduates. Common career options include personal trainer, fitness instructor or leisure centre manager, but graduates can work as a PE teacher or lecturer, or a sports therapist helping to get injured athletes back on their feet.
The programme equips students with technical abilities and knowledge of the social-economic and political development across the globe, in relation to sport and exercise science. The students will also be made aware of legal and moral issues that bound them to the society and industry. They will have an opportunity to work with industry through their internship and to carry out a real-life research project on building management. All such training will add value to their qualification and later to their employers.
Minimum Entry Requirements
- STPM with minimum 2 full passes in the relevant subjects.
- A Level with minimum 2 Principal passes in the relevant subjects.
- South Australian Matriculation (SAM) with minimum Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) of 70 and at least Grade B in 2 relevant subjects.
- Canadian Pre-University (CPU) with minimum average of 70% for 6 relevant subjects.
- Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with minimum 5 Grade B which must include one Mathematics subject and one science related subject. Grade C in English/minimum Grade C in AELE0364 English Language (1119 Level)** conducted by TAR UC./li>
- Foundation in Science (Track A / Track B), TAR UC
- Foundation in Arts (Track A), TAR UC.
- Relevant Foundation from other Institutions of Higher Learning
- Relevant Matriculation Certificate, Ministry of Education
- Relevant Diploma, TARC/TAR UC. Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science.
- Relevant Diploma from other Institutions of Higher Learning recognised by the Malaysian Government
- Other equivalent qualifications accredited by MQA
- At least a Credit in SPM Mathematics or equivalent.
- At least a Pass in SPM English Language or equivalent OR Grade C in AELE0364 English Language (1119 Level)* conducted by TAR UC and a science related subject. OR
- O Level Grade D in Mathematics and Grade E in English Language and a science related subject.
