Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia is the first university in the country to offer Bachelor of Optometry and has the experience of more than 30 years in teaching and research.
In the first 2 years of their study, students will be taught basic and applied optometry such as anatomy and physiology, pathology, pharmacology, optics and ophthalmic lenses, and clinical methods in optometry.
The clinical related subjects will be taught in the 3rd year to prepare them for clinical experiences and postings. In the final year, students will work independently with patients and learn to assess, diagnose and manage optometry cases. They will also conduct scientific research in various fields of optometry.
The degree is recognized at national and international levels and allows them to work independently as optometrists in private practices or in government hospitals. They may also pursue careers in academic or research institutions or work in optical industry.
