The Faculty of Music started to offer Bachelor of Music Education (Hons.) in 2007. This program is offered based on the recognition of the value and importance of music for the educational wellbeing of the young people in the country. This program combines the intensive study of music teacher education with practical experience in local music classrooms. The program concentrates on developing music educators who master the musical, pedagogical, and academic competencies necessary for the teaching profession. The unique features of the program include the learning techniques that are specific to teaching music, individual instrumental or vocal lessons, ensemble experience, supervised student teaching, functional computer literacy, and presentation of a mini recital during the final semester.
At the Department of Music Education, teaching is taken very seriously with faculty members who are dedicated to channeling personal energy and experience into teaching and working directly with students. Students are expected to acquire competencies in analytical and musical skills in order for them to be multi-skilled musician. They are also trained to apply music technology in their profession. The music education degree is fully accredited by the Public Services Department of Malaysia.
The Music Education programme prepares students to work primarily as educators and/or teachers in government as well as private schools and institutions. Graduates may also find employment in music related industries or as trainers in various establishments in need of music expertise.

STPM with at least three (3) principals including General Paper or its equivalent
and SPM or its equivalent with credits in Bahasa Melayu and English
and Grade 5 ABRSM Practical /Theory of Music or its equivalent
OR
Diploma in Music from Universiti Teknologi MARA or other institutions recognised by the government with a minimum CGPA of 2.5 and
SPM or its equivalent with credits in Bahasa Melayu and English
Candidates must also pass an audition and interview conducted by the Faculty of Music.
