The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.,B.S) programme at UTAR aims at preparing its graduates to become caring, competent, and evidence-based doctors.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The developement of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.,B.S) course curriculum is centered around the following nine learning outcomes:

CAREERS PROSPECTS

Upon successful completion of the medical degree,graduates are provisionally registered with the Malaysian Medical Council and undergo a two-year compulsory internship as house-officers in accredited government hospitals.
On satisfactory completion of postings in the main specialties of medicine and their assessments, the house-officers would be eligible for full registration and undertake a compulsory service at any government / public university hospitals or medical centres as a medical officer.
After completing the compulsory service with the Nation, the medical doctors can either continue as medical officers in government service or go into private practice as a private practitioner. If they are interested to become a medical specialist, they can pursue a postgraduate degree, the clinical masters, which will take about 4 years. After that, they can further subspecialize into a particular clinical discipline with additional 3 years of sub specialty training. Alternatively, for those who are more interested in research, they can pursue a PhD or Doctorate of Medicine degree, after their clinical masters.
Clinical masters, subspecialty diplomas, PhD or Doctorate of Medicine can all be undertaken in Malaysia, except some uncommon subspecialty fields. Certain foreign advanced degrees such as the MRCP(UK), MRCPath(UK), FRCPA (Australasia) can also be pursued in part or totally in Malaysia.
