Biotechnology based industries were going through rapid growth globally since the past two decades. As an effort to expand Malaysia’s economic foundation, a Biotechnology Policy which was launched in 2005 aims to make biotechnology sector as a new economic growth engine adjacent with other sectors including manufacturing, agricultural and services. Industrial biotechnology in Malaysia has been projected to create about 280,000 jobs in the future.
Our school will be offering this degree program beginning of 2011/2012 study semester. This program objective is to generate professional jobs with balanced skills in both engineering and biotechnology, also, with the ability to move forward in industrial biotechnology careers. Furthermore, graduates will gain detail knowledge in engineering and science principles as a basic requirements in chemical engineering and biotechnology. In order to achieve these objectives, our program curriculum has been structured to emphasis on application aspects in order to produce high skilled graduates.
Job opportunities are widely open for graduates in Bionexus status companies especially in industrial biotechnology and healthcare. This involves industrial enzymes production, food and healthcare products, active ingredients, flavor, coloring, industrial chemical such as ethanol and biofuel. Furthermore, graduates will also get the opportunity to grow with Malaysia’s government agencies sector such as MPOB, FRIM, MARDI, SIRIM, and others.
Therefore, we warmly welcome our first batch of students for the 2011/2012 intake.
