Mechanical Engineering is a profession for those who enjoy the challenge of problem solving and who want to work in a range of technological environments where the design and development of mechanical systems are involved. Mechanical systems are those in which force, motion and heat are major factors.
Curtin has a common first year for all its engineering students which builds their range of basic science skills and knowledge, with particular emphasis on physics, chemistry and mathematics. The course offers a strong theoretical background in mechanics, heat, computing, mathematics and a range of practical skills development in design, manufacturing and industrial technology, management and control systems. A major project in the fourth year provides the practical experience that typifies Curtin courses. The course requires four years of full-time study. Before graduating, students are required to obtain 12 weeks engineering work experience and a senior first aid certificate. Honours are awarded to graduates based upon their performance during the four years of the course.
The versatility of Mechanical Engineers has always meant that they are in demand and Curtin graduates have traditionally been very attractive to employers.
All Curtin courses are taught in English and applicants must demonstrate competence in English by meeting the Curtin English language requirement. Please check with ourStudent Services staff to see if other English language competency satisfy our entry requirements.
