:: Overview

Geoinformatics is the art and science of gathering, processing, managing and disseminating spatial and attribute data of the earth. The course is intended to produce professionals who are capable of using the geoinformation technology for the economic and physical development of the country.

:: Programme Duration

Minimum 4 years (8 semesters), Maximum: 6 years (12 semesters)

:: Entry Requirements

Candidate needs to fulfill UTM’s general entry requirements and the following
programme requirements :

STPM
i) A pass with minimum of Grade C (CPA ≥ 2.00) in two (2) combination of the
following subjects: –

• Mathematics T, and
• Physics/Chemistry/Geography

ii) A pass with credit in Mathematics in the SPM or equivalent exam.

Matriculation
i) A pass with minimum of Grade C (CPA ≥ 2.00) in two (2) combination of the
following subjects: –

• Mathematics T, and
• Physics/Chemistry/Computer Science

ii) A pass with credit in Mathematics in the SPM or equivalent exam.

Diploma
Diploma Land Surveying or Geomaticss from UTM/equivalent (CPA ≥ 2.70)

:: Programme Objective

• Possess sound knowledge in geographic information science (GIS)
• Are technically competent in handling geospatial related works
• Are able to contribute to the development of geoinformation science, adapt readily to changing situations and able to continue learning independently in the acquisition of new knowledge and skills
• Are able to communicate effectively, have leadership quality and high ethical value

:: Career Prospects

Graduates of the programme can work as GIS professionals at various government and private organizations related to land. Posts that can be held are GIS manager, GIS engineer, database manager, GIS system analyst,GIS programmer, GIS consultant, GIS researcher
