INTRODUCTION
The rapid development in telecommunication electronics has bring to the drastical growth of electronics-based telecommunication technologies in Malaysia. Telecomunication electronics comprises of video-audio system, microwave system, satelite system, mobile radio system, radar system, fiber optics system, computer networking and digital and multimedia telecommunication systems.
In order to make Malaysia competent enough in terms of industry, Malaysia needs engineers who are professional and capable as well as knowledgeable in telecommunication electronics. Recently, this need has increase drastically and it is estimated that this situation will continues. Eventhough the graduates from other universities has the capabilities to design and analysis, they normally need to take quite a long period before they can work effectively and productively in the industry. That’s the reason we implement “practical and application oriented” to our course. We strongly believe that graduates with this unique feature will contribute effectively to the related industry.
OBJECTIVES
To produce man-power that are professional and skillful and possess strong fundamental knowledge in computer engineering. Due to the equilibrium of the designed co-curriculum that emphasis both physical skills and personality development, graduates should be able to perform his profesion with high personalities, moral values, ethical and high spiritual qualities. In addition, this program is also designed to produce graduates who own good skills in oral and writing communications.
CURRICULUM STRUCTURE
The first year in the university is the fundamental year for students with the qualifications of STPM, Matriculation or equivalent. The Subjects offered are Engineering Mathematics, Physics, Computer Programming, Fundamental of Telecommuncation Engineering, personality strengthen subjects, co-curriculum and introductory subjects for chosen course. Apart from this, students are also required to undergo Engineering Workshop during the special semester in the first year. This workshop is aim to train students to master workshop skills. Upon completion of the workshop, students should have acquired hands-on experience with most of the workshop tools and the understanding of safety procedures.
In the second and third year of study, students will be exposed to the main curriculum of FKEKK. Among the offered subjects are Digital Electronics, CAD, Microprocessor Technology, Instrumentation & Measurements, Electromagnetic, etc. All students are required to undergo industrial training during their 3rd year of study for a minimum period of 18 weeks. Normally, the industrial training is carried out in the second semester of the third year. Placement of students at various companies will be supervised and coordinated by the Industrial Training Committee set up by the Faculty. The students will be placed at various companies throughout Malaysia. The training will exposed the students to a real working environment including the companies’ organization structures, business operations and administrative functions. The hands-on experience in the training will reinforce what has been taught at the University.
During the final year, students will learn more on the subjects that they are majoring, such as Telecommunication Switching System, Microwave Engineering, Telecommunication Technology, etc. The students are also required to conduct a final year project where the title is based on the needs of current technology in industries.
A minimum total of 131 credits is required for Bachelor Degree to be awarded in the fulfilment of this course.
