At the undergraduate level, the Institute of Education offers a Bachelor of Education (Honors), a 4-year programme in the following specialization:
- Teaching English As Second Language (TESL)
- Teaching Arabic As Second Language (TASL)
- Guidance and Counselling (GUIDE)
- Islamic Education (ISED)
The common objectives of the undergraduate programme are as follows:
- To produce professionally trained graduate teachers in these areas who uphold the Islamic philosophy of education and are committed to serve the country and ummah.
- To serve the growing need of the country in producing teachers in these areas who possess the integrated personality and the tawhidic worldview and act as excellent role models for the younger generation.
- To embody, revitalize, and produce graduates from this programme that exemplify in themselves the IIUM mission of Islamicization, Internationalization, Integration and Comprehensive Excellent (IIICE).

Entry Requirements
General Requirements
The general academic requirements for admission into the undergraduate degree programmes are as follows:
- A pass in the IIUM Matriculation Centre final examination with a CGPA of not less than 2.0 and fulfillment of all other requirements for promotion to the first year of the undergraduate degree programme, OR
- Three principal passes of ‘C’ grades in the STPM (Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia) examination, OR
- Three principal passes in the GCE ‘A’ level examination, OR
- Any other certificate that is recognized by the Senate as equivalent to one of the above.

Specific Admission Requirement
(B.ED TESL)
- At least 2A in English Language at the SPM Level or equivalent; AND
- At least B Grade in the English Literature at the STPM level or equivalent; AND
- Obtained at least Band 4 in the “Malaysian University English Test” (MUET); AND
- A credit in Mathematics / Additional Mathematics at the SPM level or equivalent; AND
- A credit in any three (3) subjects in SPM/equivalent.
(B.ED GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING (GUIDE) )
- At least 4B in English Language at the SPM level or equivalent; OR
- Obtained at least Band 3 in the “Malaysian University English Test” (MUET); AND
- A credit in Mathematics / Additional Mathematics at the SPM level or equivalent; AND
- A credit in any three (3) subjects in SPM or equivalent.

Language requirements
Applicants are required to sit for the IIUM-Administered English Placement Test (EPT) and Arabic Placement Test (APT) and obtained of 6.0 points to fulfill both language requirements.
Applicants who are unable to obtain satisfactory results in any of the above test may take up language proficiency courses at the University to fulfill the admission requirements.
Interview
Applicants must also pass the Teacher Selection Test (MEdSI) and interview conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education. |
