Programme Description

The BA (Hons) in Business and Quality Management would be one of its kind in Malaysia. While BA programmes in management are common nowadays, quality elements more embedded in needs of globalization. Many short courses or certification in quality management are offered by several professional training institutions such as SIRIM of Malaysia and International Standards for Organization (ISO). Not many institutions of higher learning currently offer a Bachelor Degree that combines these two increasingly important aspects of management. The increasing role of globalization and international competition means that it is not sufficient just to manage business in a conventional way. Managers today must manage quality in a continuous fashion if their businesses are to survive in the future. In the globalized era of intense competition, producing products and services in the name of quality was something to ponder and this alone is not enough. Management needs to ensure that the quality is managed effectively and efficiently to ensure continuous market dominance and customer focused strategies.

At the end of this programme, students will be able to:

• Demonstrate the acquisition of a philosophical, analytical and statistical framework that helps an organisation to successfully make the transition to Total Quality Management (TQM)
• Synthesize the historical framework under which quality and quality assessment has evolved internationally
• Implement an integrated approach to the management of quality systems which includes leadership, strategic planning and human resources management
• Evaluate and apply various statistical process control techniques used in manufacturing and services and effectively apply the tools and techniques of quality improvement
• Synthesize an understanding of how marketing, technology, people and information can be utilised to satisfy customer requirements in the services sector
• Demonstrate the importance of quality assurance in TQM and evaluate the approaches to quality assurance
• Demonstrate an appreciation for learning as a life-long process.

Entry Requirements

• Pass STPM/A level with minimum 3 principals and pass Mathematics at SPM; OR
• Pass Matriculation/Pre-University in related field; and pass SPM/SPVM or O Level with 5 credits;
• Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government

Students with a recognized Diploma in related field will be given advanced standing into the Degree programme.
