Listening and speaking is a supporting English proficiency-cum-oral course designed to help degree students improve their pronunciation, speaking, discussion, conversational and presentation skills.
At the end of the course, the students will have acquired the following:
Each week there is a class of three hours. The course is organised around an introduction to the International Phonetic Alphabet, oral tasks, practice role-plays, questions, oral summarising, short stories, oral presentations and remedial grammar.
The teacher works on expanding the students’ active oral vocabulary, improving their pronunciation with exercises, raising their ability to speak about ideas and concepts in their own words, refining their use of oral grammar and improving textual coherence and cohesion in their oral presentations. There are oral assignments and a final oral examination to assess how much the students have learnt.
